Pawsitive beginnings

Correct socialisation is extremely important and it entails so much more than just meeting every dog you encounter. The most important age to begin this process is between 3-12 weeks.

It’s built through a variety of environmental experiences—like a walk down a busy high street or waiting at the school gates. Having lunch in a café or sitting in a pub garden and watching the world go by. It's developed by the different people you meet and animals you encounter, even by visiting the groomers or the vets.

When socialisation is done correctly, in a controlled and positive manner - this enables your puppy to learn first hand that the world is a safe place, they can grow with confidence, and fear and reactivity of the unknown can be prevented.

This guide will provide you with the knowledge you need to coach your puppy through a variety of different experiences in a positive way, ensuring every experience is a good experience.

Happy dog, happy life

 What is Enrichment?

Enrichment is all about giving your dog a fulfilled life. It means enhancing their daily routine with activities that stimulate their brain and body while allowing them to express natural instincts like sniffing, licking, and problem-solving. It’s not just about extra toys; it’s about providing the variety that keeps their mind active, their tail wagging, and their heart happy.

Mental stimulation is just as important as a physical walk—did you know that just fifteen minutes of brain work can be as tiring as an hour of running? Enrichment is a powerful tool for preventing boredom and frustration, which often lead to destructive behaviour, barking, and restlessness.

Enrichment helps to build your dog's confidence. When a dog learns to solve a puzzle or navigate a new scent, they become more resilient and optimistic. Most importantly, engaging in these activities together strengthens your bond, turning everyday moments into opportunities for trust, learning, and fun.

Each session is personalised to you and your dog. We will carry out activities your dog will love, and you’ll walk away with the knowledge and ideas to provide the daily fulfilment your dog will thank you for.

"I've got your back"

Haven't we all wished at some point our dogs could talk to us? Wouldn't that make things so much easier?

Understanding your dog's body language is the foundation of a safe, trusting, and happy relationship. Dogs communicate through physical cues, so being able to read and understand what they are saying allows you to act as their advocate and better meet their needs.

Why It Matters:

  • Safety: Most aggressive incidents, such as bites, occur because subtle stress signals were missed or ignored. Recognising early warning signs allows you to defuse a situation before it escalates.
  • Trust: When you respond appropriately to your dog's silent communication, you show them you are reliable and safe. This mutual understanding creates a sense of trust and security, helping to build a solid bond between you.
  • Well-being: Understanding whether your dog is actually enjoying an interaction or just 'tolerating' it—and recognising when they need space or reassurance—helps you make better choices for them and minimises potential negative outcomes.
  • Training: Training becomes significantly easier (and more fun) when you can recognise if your dog is focused, overstimulated, or confused, enabling you to plan your sessions more productively.
  • Behaviour: Many behaviours often deemed 'naughty' or 'bad,' such as jumping up or barking, can actually be attempts to communicate feelings of upset or discomfort. Understanding which situations cause these behaviours by recognising the signals will help to minimise them in the long run.

Other Services:

Fancy a chat?

Training a puppy can be hard. It’s a long process, and sometimes all you need is a chat to vent or get the reassurance that you’re doing things right.
Do you have questions you just can't find the answer to, or do you need a little boost to continue your journey when things seem tough?

If you can relate to these feelings, these sessions can help get you back on track and keep training enjoyable for both you and your pup.

WALK & TALK

We can take a stroll with your pooch while I answer any questions you may have. I’ll observe what you're currently doing and adapt where necessary, or advise on future sessions to help you move forward.
